This course introduces learners to inventors and everyday science, chemical properties of materials, effects of heat, and safe handling to protect the environment. Through local examples and guided investigations, students develop observation, classification, communication, and survey skills. By course end they can identify community issues and propose practical, science-based solutions to improve health and sustainability in their neighborhoods.

- Demonstrate simple ways to minimize harmful changes in materials, such as restricting the burning of waste and handling reactive materials with care.
- Identify local environmental issues and suggest how scientific processes can be applied to address them.
- Apply science process skills and attitudes—including grouping, classifying, communicating, and open-mindedness—in conducting a guided survey about local environmental concerns.
